SHORTWAVE NEWS

HFCC Transmission Schedules for A26
The new A26 season will commence on Sunday 29 March 2026 and HFCC t
ransmission schedules will be published after 15 March 2026 at https://new.hfcc.org/data/a26/

Australia
Radio 567  As of about five days ago, Radio 567 is off air on shortwave until further notice. So 4970 and 2325 kHz are no longer. The licence is still in place but the owner had to leave the property he was renting. He has plans to return, but this will be some time off, by the sounds of it. Apparently, the streaming service still continues, but I have not confirmed that. (Rob Wagner, 12 February 2026)

Finland
Radio Black Smith Knoll - 6120 kHz  Kari Kallio posted the following about RBSK to the World of Radio IO Group on 21 February 2026: "Unfortunately, we have to share some technical news: all RBSK broadcasts are cancelled for now. In our setup we’ve been using a small battery-powered controller that lets us manually manage the transmitter power. After a long stretch of freezing weather, that controller has finally run out of battery, and the system can’t be operated in its current state. We had planned to replace the battery during our spring maintenance window, but clearly we were a bit too optimistic about its real-world lifespan. Even though the battery is rated down to -20°C, prolonged cold conditions have a habit of winning anyway. We’ll post an update as soon as we have a clearer plan for the fix and the timeline. RBSK will be back … later"

Germany
News from Channel 292  Tony Pavick, producer and presenter of Pop Shop Radio, posted the following to the British DX Club and World of Radio IO Groups on 29 January 2026: Quoted from an email received (from Channel 292) earlier today:
Good news: Today we put a new inverted V antenna for 6070 kHz into operation, which should deliver better results than the previous stretched dipole.
Bad news: This morning our transmitter for 3955 kHz failed and the frequency will not be on air for some time. For all programs booked on 3955 kHz until the transmitter is back in operation, there are three options:
1) Re-book for when the transmitter is back up and running
2) Move to 6070 kHz, please specify the date and time
3) Move to 9670 kHz, please specify the date and time
A move to 6070 kHz for programmes, such as my Pop Shop Radio, at 1700 to 1900 UT is not really feasible as CRI Russian dominates the frequency at that time".

indonesia
RRI Kebayoran (Jakarta)  On 13 February 2026 the output on 7203 kHz was increased from 600W to 800W, and on 14 February it was upped again to 1000W. On 15 February heard with quite a nice signal at 1140, clear because no China on 7205. An Indonesian listener commented that the audio is a bit muffled. Mohammad Rohanudin at RRI says he has made some changes to the antenna. Plenty of DXers around the place should be able to hear this direct now without having to resort to Kiwi SDRs - best to pick a time when China isn't on air on 7205. (David Foster, Australia/World of Radio IO Group)

Malaysia
RTM Malaysia test transmissions on 11885 and 15295 kHz.  RTM has recently been conducting test transmissions from two new 100 kW shortwave transmitters that they
recently purchased from Ampegon. The tests consisted of relays of Nasional FM in Malay and Sabah VFM in various languages. The two services were alternating between 11885 and 15295 kHz. The final test broadcast was on 10 February 2026. Atsuhiko Takezawa notes that both frequencies were being received very well in East Asia. (Atsuhiko Takezawa, Japan, 7 February 2026, and additional observations from Ron Howard, Zak Liangas and Wolfgang Bueschel as posted to the World of Radio IO Group during February 2026)

Update: RTM tests resumed on 2 March 2026 with Sabah VFM on 11885 kHz and Nasional FM on 15295 kHz. (many thanks to Atsuhiko Takezawa in Japan, who reports that 15295 kHz is again being received strongly in East Asia)

Myanmar
Radio NUG (target broadcast to Myanmar)  It seems that Radio NUG ended its broadcasts on 7 November 2025, due to financial difficulties. Thanks to Atsuhiko Takezawa who found the following on their Facebook page (with a translation into English): "Suspension of Radio NUG Broadcasts. To all supporters of Spring People’s Radio NUG, Radio NUG, which has delivered its programs daily without interruption from August 2021 until November 7, 2025, has been forced to suspend broadcasting as of today due to financial difficulties. While we have fulfilled our radio duties of delivering information to the public through the airwaves, our CDM members and volunteers will continue to carry on the path of the Spring Revolution, each doing their part wherever they are able. Together with the Spring Revolution, we, the Spring soldiers of Radio NUG, will continue to stand united. November 7, 2025". Vatican
Vatican Radio at 95  Vatican News renewed one of the most recognisable elements of its identity on the anniversary of its inauguration on 12 February 2026, the sound ident that has always accompanied listeners of the Pope's station, a modern reworking of the original "Christus Vincit" theme. The project included four main idents, all based on the Christus Vincit theme, each designed to accompany a different moment of the radio broadcast: one dedicated to waking up, one for the morning, one for the afternoon, and one for the night. Two short idents were also included: the first uses the theme's opening, the second uses its ending, creating an immediate and recognizable connection with the original sound identity. Further details can be found at https://www.vaticannews.va/it/vaticano/news/2026-02/radio-vaticana-95-anni-nuovo-logo-musicale-ident-christus-vincit.html (with thanks to Christian Ghibaudo on the British DX Club IO Group for details prior to the event)

English Africa Service approaches 76 Years: Founded in 1931 by Guglielmo Marconi at the request of Pope Pius XI and placed under the guidance of the Jesuits, Vatican Radio continues its global service. For its part, the English Africa Service has been broadcasting to the continent for 76 years. The article in full can be found here: https://www.vaticannews.va/en/africa/news/2026-02/vatican-radio-at-95-english-africa-service-approaches-76-years.html (Tony Rogers)

France/Monaco
Channel 292 Germany now offering 1000 kW on 1467 kHz  Tony Pavick posted the following from Channel 292 to the British DX Club and World of Radio IO Groups on 12 February 2026: "We can now also offer our customers transmissions via the 1000 kW mediumwave transmitter at 1467 kHz from Monaco (transmitter is actually at Roumoules, France - see below). Various radiation patterns are possible (at night) ...". Christian Ghibaudo added on the British DX Club IO Group: "Just a quick clarification regarding the Roumoules transmitter. The center is in France, 150 km north of Monaco. However, it is NOT a French frequency; 1467 kHz is registered for the Principality of Monaco by the ITU. Therefore, it is a Monegasque frequency, and the center belongs to Monaco Média Diffusion, a company dependent on the Prince's Government of Monaco. Furthermore, the employees have the status of employees of the Principality, not of France. But it's good news to know that the Roumoules transmitter can be leased for broadcasts other than those of TWR"

Iran
Observations of IRIB World Service on mediumwave
These are on-going notes made by Tony Rogers concerning the IRIB World Service on MW during February 2026:
639 kHz:                  Whilst Turkish was observed on 702 kHz at 1720 sign-on, nothing was heard on 639 kHz, a frequency that used to be in parallel (using SDR in Russia)
702 kHz:                  Talysh heard from 1720 UTC, followed by Turkish at 1820 UTC on 16 February (using SDR in Russia)
720 and 1098 kHz:  Dari confirmed in progress on both frequencies in parallel at 1415 UTC on 13 February (using SDR in Tajikistan)
1449 kHz:                Turkmen confirmed in progress with IRIB chimes at 1430 UTC on 13 February (using SDR in Tajikistan)

Target broadcasts to Iran  Several international broadcasting stations have transmissions for listeners in Iran on mediumwave at present. Some of these have been going for a while, with others having been introduced recently in response to the crisis in the country. The Middle East and Caucasus on Mediumwave guide has a list of current target broadcasts under the entry for Iran, and these are also listed by frequency in External Services on Mediumwave.
